Israeli soldiers assault Palestinian students heading to school in occupied East Jerusalem

Israeli forces have assaulted several Palestinian students on their way to school this morning in Shuafat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem, and prevented them from crossing the main military checkpoint in the area.

CCTV footage showed an Israeli soldier assaulting a Palestinian student and throwing her to the ground. Another video showed student Saleh Diab after he was forced to remove his clothes at a military checkpoint, before being beaten. His sister, who tried to intervene and film the attack on her phone, was also assaulted.

The residents of Shuafat refugee camp have called for a day of “civil disobedience” tomorrow in response to the attacks and restrictions imposed by Israeli forces.

Palestinians say that searches at checkpoints near the refugee camp have become more intrusive and aggressive in recent days, after two Israelis were allegedly stabbed earlier this week in Jerusalem by residents of the camp. The Israeli army has carried out raids to arrest the relatives of the alleged assailants.
